Julian Rodriguez

At the age of 24, Julian is a five-year pro. A sensational young prospect at 140 pounds, he is a former amateur standout – a gold medalist at the 2013 National Golden Gloves Championships, and a silver medalist at the 2012 National PAL Championships and 2012 U.S. National Championships.

He is managed by Pat Lynch, who also managed former IBF junior lightweight and WBC super lightweight world champion Arturo Gatti. Gatti was posthumously inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2013.

Julian stayed active with six fights in 2014, three in 2015, four in 2016, and one in 2017. He gave impressive performances each time and made good progress.

In his last fight on September 8, 2017, in Philadelphia, he won a six-round unanimous decision against Dario Ferman.

Secondsout.com’s J.R. Jowett reported from ringside [excerpts]: Julian Rodriguez met Dario Ferman, Juarez, MX. The tall, lanky Mexican boxed defensively to start….

The third round started with a crackling exchange in a neutral corner which the favorite eventually won and forced Ferman to give ground. Later in the round, Rodriguez stepped in with a left hook and staggered Dario.

Open trading continued in the fourth, with Rodriguez landing the harder blows. Through a hard-fought fifth, the contest entered the final round. All [three judges] scored 59-55 for Rodriguez, while Ferman exited to cheers. [End Jowett item]

Julian told The Ring, “There’s a lot of people who have natural speed, natural strength, but it’s how you use it. Most of my fights I’ve been going forward, pressing the action because I have the opening. No one has really seen me box, and I box really well. There’s always room for improvement, but I’m very diverse when it comes to styles and game plans. I know how to react to certain movements and how to read my opponent well.”

Manager Pat Lynch added, “Julian is just a pleasure to manage. He’s got such a bright future, he’s so dedicated to the sport. All he does is boxing and his music. He comes from a great family, well-grounded, and he’s got all the talent in the world, he’s a super-huge puncher.

“At this point in his career, he’s probably the most talented fighter I’ve been involved with. Obviously, Arturo went on to be a superstar. It remains to be seen with Julian, but he has all the tools to do that, there’’s no doubt in my mind.”
