Fightnews.com’s David Finger reported from ringside [excerpts]: Undefeated Carlos Castro of Phoenix won a lopsided decision over Diuhl Olguin of Guadalajara, Mexico over eight rounds.

Olguin was never able to find an answer for the speed of Castro, who picked the Mexican brawler apart over eight rounds.

In an earlier interview, Carlos said, “I train at Knockout Gym here in Phoenix. I’ve been working with my trainer, Angel Soto, since I was 10 years old.

“For sparring, we usually just mix it up with local guys. In the past, I had to work a job – I had to feed my family – so I didn’t have much time to travel for sparring.

“My style – I’m more of a smart boxer, a counterpuncher.

“I don’t use a nickname.”

AMATEUR, PERSONAL BACKGROUND: Carlos said, “I was born in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. I have two brothers. I was around two years old when my family moved to Phoenix. My dad works at a car dealership and my mom works at a restaurant. I’m the only boxer in my family.

“I was about seven years old when I first started boxing. Actually, it was like a one-day thing. We were going to get some bread, where we usually go, and in front of it there was a house with a boxing gym. We just got there and I tried it and we went from there. I started liking it.

“I had about 190 amateur fights with probably around 15 losses. There was only one national tournament I could compete in because I wasn’t a citizen. That was the National Silver Gloves.

“I’m naturally right-handed. I’m married and I have two kids – I’m married at a young age. I have a boy that seven years old, and the baby girl that’s six months old.

“I was working as a landscaper, but now that this opportunity came up with Top Rank, I’m going to box full-time.”…
